Miles Competition

We are having this competition at work across our account teams at a variety of clients of a particular industry to see who can run the most miles over the next 6 weeks. The only requirement was to have a iPod Nano, iPod Touch or iPhone. They bought everyone one of the Nike+ sensors that basically acts as a running pedometer. It calculates how far you’ve ran and has a bunch of other neat features.

Right now I’d say mine is calibrated that it is within 4% of the actual distance. That  is both pretty good and pretty annoying. Pretty annoying because it is underestimating all of my runs. However, it is pretty cool.

There are a bunch of different ways they are tracking the competition but the main one I’m concerned with is this team thing. Myself and two coworkers are trying to have the highest average miles. We’ve started out pretty strong but a full week hasn’t gone by yet so it is hard to say what the numbers will look like. The highest that I’ve seen so far from an individual from Monday through Wednesday is 28 miles. That is a lot of miles in three business days.

My goal is to try and maintain a minimum of 25 miles per week. Since March 1st I’ve been averaging 20 per week so it shouldn’t be too crazy.

This weekend was Bike Race 2009. It was fun per usual. It also made me incredibly exhausted. To those who made the trip, thanks for coming.

Phillies

I went to the ballpark last night to what the Phillies play the Nationals. It was the perfect night for baseball. It’s the type of weather I like to refer to as “it is neither hot nor cold, it just is.” The Phillies hit 4 homeruns and the Nationals hit one. That is the only way runs were scored. The Girl payed for tickets and I payed for hot dogs and drinks. I like balance like that. Definitely fun times.

Friday Night

In my 26+ years, I don’t think I’ve ever gone out on a legitimate Friday night date. I’ve done things on Friday nights but I don’t recall any specific plans to do some activity with a new girl on a Friday night. Tonight I’m actually going to change that.

I’m going to the art museum to look at art and I think there might be some live jazz music going on as well. Sounds like fun to me. I imagine we’ll swing by a couple bars afterwards for drinks. I really believe it will be an enjoyable time.

I’m back up in Toronto again. I’m going to write more about this later but I just wanted to put something down so you don’t need to keep reading about cats. Speaking of that, yes, I realize I’m a terrible pet owner as I get a cat and then have to go out of town for a few days. Thank goodness for Danielle being awesome and offering to stop by and take car of things. I’m staying in possibly the best hotel room I’ve ever had. If you like tall buildings and lots of windows (relatively speaking), this room is great.

Sleeping at Work

Last night I slept at work. Well, it was hardly sleep as I got about 1.5 hours of restlessness while I was sprawled out on my cold office floor with a bag of packing peanuts for a pillow. Some stuff didn’t go right and I felt obligated to both try and fix it and be around when the UK guys would roll into the office at 4am my time. Fortunately, the effort paid off and I got the thing fixed but now I am quite tired and a little lacking in morale.

In less than 18 hours I’ll be at the “Night of the Barrels” at the 2009 Extreme Beerfest. This will be my second year attending this specific event and the third sending the Beerfest as a whole. I’m very much looking forward to it. Not only am I looking forward to the fest, but I’m happy to be visiting Boston again. For some reason I really like that city. On top of that, I get to spend some time with Mark, Kara and Labatt the cat. It will certainly be a good time.

Update: It only took5 hours and 15 minutes to drive up. Sweet! The only traffic was around the GW Bridge going into NYC.

Laundry Problem

I’ve got this ongoing problem where there is a pile of clean, unfolded laundry sitting on my bedroom floor. By the time I wear it all or get around to folding the remaining bits a fresh pile of clean clothes appears. I’m not sure how I’ll ever be able to change my ways and get ahead.
